Hey all. I am going to probably be getting a Cichla (Pbass) soon. The kind at my LFS are Ocellaris. Forgive me if I misspell the scientific names. They are going for 9.99. This is for a juvie about 1.5 to two inches at most. He said he could order any of them as his supplier has them all. I am most interested in these ones but I think I like the Monoculus better. He said he only keeps the ocels because they are the cheapest and the others are too expensive for him to just order unless it is already sold. What are the price differences between the species on average and what do they tend to go for.

I know I don't want a tem because they get to be much larger much quicker than the others.

But The other three I would be interested in:
Ocels
Monos
Orinos

Thanks

it always varies on where youre @... best bet is to shop around and compare prices... then you can tell the difference... imo, orino's are a lil pricey than the others you have mentioned;)

if you can order Orinos, id get those first than ocels and monos.. IMO

Why orinos? I like the monos because of the bright yellow coloring at least form the pics I have seen.

Keep in mind Orinos tend to be the most aggressive of the species...Ive got one that totally dominates the tank. Orinos can also get to be pretty big. As far as prices go, you could expect to pay anywhere from $5 to $20 for 2-2.5" common pbass such as Ocels, Monos, and farm Orinos. Wild caught tend to be more expensive, and the bigger they are the more expensive as well. Small pbass arent real tuff and can die without warning, thats why the small ones tend to be cheap. The problem with small common pbass is that almost all of them look exactly alike when they are less than 3". So your fish guy could sell you just about anything and call it whatever he wants. Do plenty of researching and look at lots of pics.

No not in SD. I am in the central valley. Visalia. The arm pit of California. The local fish guy I deal with is pretty cool. I asked for the scientific name and he told me which he orders. HE said he could order a different one for me if I wanted and I would only have to pay for the fish.

Hey! You're in Visa? Dang man, never thought there'd be someone else from this place on MFK.

But Pete, assuming that's who you talked to, really told you that he could get Orinos? What price did he quote for you? Sorry, never expected them to be able to get Orinos as their stock has become rather basic as of late. :nilly:

Did you order some already?
