Possible internal parasite? If you feed live food from the LFS theres a good chance that is the case. Treat with Prazipro. Only takes one dose in most cases.

Also, what temp. is your water?

How long has this been going on for? Did you recently switch from live to pellets? I also agree with venom it could be an internal parasite, most important question is what exactly are you feeding?

Keep in mind that prazi only treats tapeworm and gill flukes effectively. It's pretty useless against other parasites.

Disease mostly. Cichla are very fragile at small sizes. They are babies after all, and need special care. Some people tend to forget this, and treat them like any other fish. It doesn't matter where the fish came from, or how you acquired them. If they live, or die, depends solely on the care they receive. If you are going to buy juvie fish, prepare to "baby" them until they grow out, or buy adults.
