Could I keep at least 1 P-Bass in a 180? if not, whats the minimum size. I'm 14 and want other adolescents to observe this hobby for what it is. Right now my lure into the hobby is my Dovii, but no doubt a 1.1/2'+ P-Bass would have a great effect on anyone who saw it.

BTW my parents are only just finished with their divorce, and ever since then I have not been able to keep the same amount of tanks as in the past because I moved into a smaller residency. I am very serious about this, and would like to know as much as possible. Any comments or feedback is deemed appreciated.:)

to house atleast one - two pbass in a 180 gallon you should be fine..i got a 14 inch mono pbass and a 8-10 inch kelberi n dont plan on upgrading..but you should be fine..

You should be able to keep a pair of adults (except Tems), no problem. If you don't mind doing mulitiple water changes every week, even a group of juvies for a good while, although you would eventually have to get rid of a few as the matured.

IMO a 30" wide tank should be the minimum. And there are more than just tems that max out above 24".

Yes you could keep any number of different types from fry for a few years at least.Like Kelberi -Orino-Ocell-Mono the last two will grow at a slightly faster rate .But they all grow fast in my opinion you can expect at least 1 inch per month growth if you are feeding well. After hitting around 12 inches they tend to slow on growth and you can slow down on feeding but with all these guys i would say expect a 2 foot fish eventually if you do not you will be frustrated the fish won't be happy and niether will you .And lastly form what i have seen the Dovii will tear the bass apart eventually so don't keep together...:D

Haha I wasn't going to do that. I don't think Dovii's even need 180's but better happy then unlucky. BTW my dovii is a puppy with it's tail between it's legs.... no way he could kill a P-Bass. You never know when their going to change. Hehe, he's a cute little whimp.

I would say that dovii's too need 300 gallons as they can reach 26" long. Don't believe me, type in rainbow bass on google images.

Dovii's have grown to be 26", but I have never heard of it happening in captivity. For the most part they stay around 18" in captivity, but with age they can grow to be bigger. Non-the less, always be ready for what coming... that's why I don't keep Cichla's, I don't have a 180(hopefully yet) and feeing them is pricey, bone chilling pricey LOL. Anyway, I would like to keep them, but I don't want to put them in my 75G and then find out my LFS won't be taking in 180G's for month's around the time they hit around 10". It's a disaster waiting to happen.:FIREdevil:rip
