I just got a very young (about 2.5" long) mislabeled bichir this morning. I haven't the chance to get any pics yet (just getting him acclimated and such), but think it is either a Delhezi or Weeksii. What is the best way to determine which one it is? I will trying to get pics in a bit to help out.
Thank you in advance for any assistance you can provide!

Look at the size of the head. Weeksoli is apso darker than delhezi

If they were in a white tank they could be washed out, my weeksii was very light almost a pale green from that at the LFS. The best way to tell though is the head, likee was already stated the head on my weeksii is larger then the head on my p.p. buettokoferri but the weeksii is 3 inches shorter. Also on the head itself there won't be much pattern on a weeksii, delhezi will have a good amount of pattern all over the head

The little bugger is not letting me get a decent photo of him.
He is very light colored (practically white), and has some darker (though still pale) vertical bars up near his head, with a few dark spots on his tail and fins.
I think he has 11 dorsal spines. All over his body and head he has little light grey spots.

I will keep trying to get a photo or two though.
Thanks again.

Finally! I got a photo that is okay.
Since he was put into this tank with the dark substrate, he has darkened up quite a bit, but still seems pretty light.
I am leaning toward a delhezi at this point but still uncertain. I have an older Delhezi that is very dark and has like iridescent green spots on the top of his head, and has much more pronounced markings. This little guy is not very well marked regardless of the species, but for $6 I wasn't going to pass on it.

It's a Delhezi. He will get dark and will have green when he gets more settled in. Thats the cool things about dels is that they will get very nice looking and have some very nice green on black substrate. Even if they don't have very good marking their green will sometimes make them look even better. I'd have to agree any poly (except for a senegal) for $6 would be a steal in my book.

Many thanks Doctor!
It is good to have confirmation from someone more knowledgeable than myself.
I wish I could get a good photo of my older delhezi, but he seems to be fairly camera shy so far.

Delhezi for sure!

Thank you Fish N Cash.
It nibbled on a tiny bit of venison heart and bloodworms. Seems to be settling in pretty nicely so far.
