My endli has a smooth part on his body about half an inch across and the scales have a red tinge around them I think this must be some kind of fungus or bacterial condition .
The problem is that my external filter blew it's motor on Monday and I have only just put a new tetratec ex1200 on the tank today I have been doing 30% water changes every 2 days (normally do 40-50% every 8-10 days).
I have not used any of the old filter material as it smelt funny and the filter was not functioning very well before it broke .
I don't mind doing frequent changes for the next 4 weeks as this will bring on a growth spurt in my tiger fish (datnoid),but this brings me on to the complications I have a tyre track in this tank as well as two other birchers (weeksi and retropinnis)so medication has to be done very carefully .
I did not install the charcoal parts of the new filter and I could potentially set up a bath for my endli but what is recommended ?
I have always stayed away from medication as much as possible and tried to stay on the prevention side of things with good water changes and aquarium salts the only medication i have used in 3 years is for white spot .
I recently added normal salt and increased the temperature to 30 in this tank and it has bought out the colors in my endli but has (so far) not stopped the infection .
He is otherwise lively and eating well .

Instead of 30% every other day, start doing them every day.

Your major mistake was not using any of the old media. if you still have any and it's been kept wet, then put it in the tank or better yet, in your new filters, right away.

If you don't, then daily water changes, salt and increased temps.

Wish you the best.

Sounds like just poor water quality, but if the above doesn't work, you should go for Mardels 'Maracyn 2' which fights bacterial infections.

Thanks for advice will have to see if those treatments are available ,I could rescue some old filter material or just gunge out some of my others as well .
