Hi Guys,

Does anyone know where I can purchase P. Maramondia, a Madagascar cichlid.

Thanks!

I'm not sure that is an actual fish. I've never heard of that variety of paretroplus. There are only a couple of paretroplus available in most area and those are lamena, maculatus, menarambo, kieneri, dambabe.

Hi Anton:
Unfortunately Paretroplus maromandia has not been breed in captivity. While the late Nourissati and Patrick de Rham managed to get some from Madagascar, I don't believe any specimens survived. This is in my opinion the most beautiful of the paretroplines, closely followed by damii and nourisatii, as well as, menarambo.

Thank you for your reply Ciclasoman. Too bad this fish is not available to us hobbyists. Like you, I believe it's the most gorgeous Madagascar cichlid.

Thank you.

Let me chime in, both nourisatti and damii are gorgeous, but very different. I have kept nourisatti and had young damii for a short time. \both were very frustrating. My lamena would spawn, and then kill each other and eggs never get beyond the first day. Dami didn't make it to adulthood. My guess is they need amazingly large tanks to thrive, 500 gallons or more, with plenty of current. I'm working on maculatus at the moment, had one infertile spawn so far.

Yes, I've heard it's quite frustrating to raise nourisatti due to their aggressiveness. They tend to kill each other. I also know someone who has spawned these fish but the eggs just end up being eaten.

I have a few now and hope to spawn them one day. Wish me luck!
