Hi all...

I´ve had my 9" Parachanna Obscura for exactly 1 week today... the water parameters and temperature are ok (except PH wich is around 7,5-8 - which maybe is a tad too high for this fish) and in general the fish seems to be ok.

My problem is that the SH refuses to eat what I´m offering... I know for a fact that the former owner fed it with mainly frosen shrimp and occasionally with guppy feeders.

I would prefer to use frosen/dead food as the main food-source and only use live feeders as an occasional treat...

So far I´ve tried frosen shrimp, lancefish and red worms...

Is it because the fish is adult and need time to settle in the new environment?

For how long can it starve??

Hope you can help me

regards,
Peter

Hi.........

Do not worry!

Obscura can starve more than 4 weeks without problems!!!
specially when it is an adult!

My ones were very sensitive!
When I changed water ,or cut a plant back.or move ap iece of wood a little bit........they stop feeding at once for some time!!!

P.obscura sometimes is very special because of feeding!

If you feed them with live fish they maybe take nothing else anymore.....so keep on trying with frozen food!
It is cheaper.........

You also can try feeding earthworms or Zophobas (my ones like it lliek mad!)

Hi Pascal...

Thanx for the reply :)

I have avoided offering him live feeders for exactly the reason you are writing - I don't want him to rely on live food exclusively...

I'll offer him frozen food every other day and then we'll have to see when he's hungry enough...

I'll keep you posted

regards,
Peter
