Hi :)

I have 2 p. palmas polli in my tank, male + female. the female is very "fat" (full of eggs i preesume?) but they do not spawn or mate with eachother.. any way, everytime I try to put some hygrophila polysperma (i think it's what they're called) they start to cirkle around it, swim through it and against it. and they eat the leafs on the plant..

can someone tell me why?

(the other bichirs, ornatipinnis, delhezi and senegalus does this too, but not as much)

I was going to say it sounds like they're moving the plants around for a spawning a area like Cichlids do but since everyone does it I have no idea...

My senegal and palmas poli does this too whenever I feed my gouramis with plants. They will sometimes nibble on some small craps. Not sure why they do this but they ate them anyway. I posted the same tread before with pictures at aquaticpredators.com back in 2007 asking the same question why. Some reports that ropefish in the wild does the same thing as they find some vegetation in the belly.

well, my senegals have spawned 1 time, got 2 fry but both died...
My delhezis have been spawning a few times, here's a film on it: (only thing is, it's 2 males :P )

and, i can see that my palmas polli female wants to mate, i've seen when she swim in to my big anubias plant and "shake", like when she drops eggs to the male. but my male isn't intressted... could it help with more males?

ok, well ... now that you name it.. my ropefish does this too, not just on this plant, around almost every plant, they look down in the sand where there are roots from the plants and chew...
