I am relatively sure my p14s are breeding. Male is 3 or 4 years so not worried about that one and has been in a tank with breeding rays so is familiar (I hope) with the process.

My female however is probably 1.5 years old however so I am not sure about her and whether she is old enough. Due to the strategic bites on her back two fins and the fact the male has now left her alone I am feeling relatively good about it.

At what age, and I guess size have others bred them.

not sure if p14's are the same as other black rays but i know its pretty rare to get a leo female prego before 2.5 yrs old

right now i have several 1.5 yr old leos that are getting beat up all the time but not gettin prego

just my 2 cents

I don't think the female can breed until 8 years old. Just my 2cents.

Eight years?! Do you have any scientific proof or personal experience to back that up?

I would shoot Frank a PM or email, Rudy. I know they are putting out some pretty impressive captive bred p14's in the Netherlands.

My cb female was first time pregnant with age of 4 years and a diskwitdh of 15".
Bites on the back have nothing to do with mating and do only damage the female.
I put them together first time when the female was 3 years old (my goal was to take pictures of the undamaged beauty of the female, before the male did any damage).
The male bite her heavily on the back, leaving large wounds and I had to seperate them 3 times (for 2-3 months to heal the wounds) until the first mating happened.

None of my female P14 got pregnant before beeing at least 2 1/2 years old. Most of them got pregnant for the first time at the age of inbetween 3 1/2 and 4 years.
