Just curious, some people call P14's itaituba. Is that where they come from? How come we even call them p14 instead of just calling them itaituba, it seems a bit wierd to me.

itaituba is there scientific name... P14 is there common/ reference number

We had this topic in the past:

The name Itaituba means, that these rays live in the Rio Tapajos near the town Itaituba.
And most rays from Tapajos were shipped via Itaituba (in the former golden days of cheap wildcought black rays).
Another reason for this name is because in the Aqualog they say that some of these rays were cought in the river Rio Itaituba. This is a small tributary of Rio Tapajos.

Itaituba is not really a scientific name. It's the name of a city placed at the banks of the Rio Tapajos, which is not far away from the place this rays are coming from.
In my opinion it is not really unusual, to name not exactly known species or variants of known species like a bigger city next to the place they have been caught......like Pot. leopoldi from Sao Felix do Rio Xingu for example.

Stefan
