I was just wondering if anyone knows what it takes to get my concealed weapons permit in PA? Like, what do I need to bring with me, etc...

Go to your local sheriff's department at the court house- if you are in Montgomery County that is Norristown (I believe). You will need ID- driver's license- and fill out the paperwork. They will ask what weapons- if you don't have on yet see if you can use various. If you have anything on your record (other than low misdemenors and traffic offenses-tickets) you may not be granted one. They also ask why you want the permit. They will do a thorough background check so be prepare (need to put down references on the application). Where I live in PA the sheriff is more lax on granting but the closer to Philly you are the tougher they get in general. Remember you must apply in the county you live and there are restrictions on where you can carry (check about Philly- rules could have changed again - definite no carries- post office, schools, court house, goverment buildings)

thanks for the advice. mine's definitely in norristown. i'm about a half hour west of king of prussia in montco. definitley dont have to worry about the background check...just purchased my gun on friday and have nothing more than one out of state speeding ticket on my record
Jimmy, i heard it was much more of a hassle to get the permit out there, but had no idea there was that much involved. i'm probably going to go down this friday to do the application, i have the day off so i figured i may as well get it now before they make it any tougher to get.

thanks everyone for the advice!

Jon

When I got my permit I was living in Schuykill County- otherwise known as Cuckoo County. I was able to transfer it when I moved to Carbon County.
