B BIGgourami Polypterus MFK Member Jan 31, 2007 6,184 12 92 36 Chicago, IL Nov 23, 2008 #3 black sands are generally igneous.. so watch out for rusting (happened in my 25, with no ill effect, luckily) other than that.. it's an OK fine grain sand, but will not help to buffer calcium, pH, or alkalinity like aragonite or CC would
