I happened across this beauty while mushroom hunting. Notice the car keys - this guy was big! They are considered the world's largest terrestrial salamander, though there are a LOT bigger aquatic species.

Location: Drakes Crossing, Oregon
Date: November 4th, 2007

Pacific Giant Salamander, Dicamptodon tenebrosus

Chanterelle, Cantharellus cibarius

Matsutake, Tricholoma matsutake

wow, you go mushroom hunting? For cooking? or do you have like mushroom terrariums? lol... nice fat slalmander

Actually, I'm more of a trophy hunter. That big matsutake is stuffed, mounted, and hung on my living room wall.

you have a mushroom mounted in your living room? i gotta see some pics.

That is really cool, how long you guess it to be? The mushrooms are also cool, I enjoy looking at them when I see them in the wild but I know next to nothing about them so I don't collect/eat them.
