Swimmin' with the fishes
So I'm getting a free 20" pacu tomorrow. i was planning to drop him in my 300 with a 16" RTC, 18" channel, 8" P. Gibbiceps, 10" indo dat, and 16" ornate bichir. However, I'm also growing out a lily for my soon to be 4600 pond. I know pacu are herbivorous omnivores, but will it bother the lily or are they more in to nuts and fruits and such? There's nothing in the pond right now, so I could always drop the lily in there early, but if I can keep giving it tons of nitrates, that'll obviously be better. :)

also, this is going to be my first pacu, anything I should know apart from limit the meaty protein, look in to getting more so they can school, and be aware they spook easily, so don't always come running if there's a huge crash.

They really eat just about anything. I'd imagine a water lily wouldn't last long. I've had large pacu in my 750 before, a 300g is going to be tight.

that's what I figured, just wanted to confirm my hunch was right.

He's not gonna stay in the 300 for long. Maybe a month at most, if that. My plan is to move the two cats and the pacu over to the 4600 within the next month. everything got put on hold because the wife's car needed a new transmission. So we're out $3k which was going to go partly toward the pond and partly toward a honeymoon. On top of that, we're going to court over it, so everything might get put on hold even longer... Good news is, the tank is 8'x2.5' footprint, so a 20" pacu will still have room to swim. though not ideal, it's better than most

Definitely better than most but you will see what I mean when you put him in there. My tank is 10x4 and the 2 pacu were quickly getting uncomfortable. Good luck with the pond
