Pacu, best way to catch him in my 300 gal tank. Should I buy some regular fishermans nets at wal mart? 2 of them one for each hand? All lids off?, any suggestions? I need to catch him, hes going to a public aquarium very soon.

I absolutely hate having to catch mine. Haven't had to for two years, and dread the day when I have to again.

Remove everything from within the tank (except for substrate, if you have it) and above the tank. Drain the tank so that its dorsal fin starts sticking out of the water. Then, as quick as you can, net her out and put her wherever it is you're putting her next. Some people recommend using a wet t-shirt to move big fish, but unless you can physically get in the tank to catch her, and then hand the shirt to somebody outside the tank, I don't think its feasible.

Good luck.

yes thats a real good idea to drain the tank to shallow water, I was planing on doing that and totally forgot about it over the months.

i bought a fishing net at a spoting goods store to move mine. It is no fun with a 22" pacu but it works, and yes lower the water level.

Hi Johnny , I just switched my 12 inch oscars to a bigger tank , a 150 , and drained water in old tank to about half , used a big beach towel in the water to work them to one side and gently wrap them in the towel . I know this is a common method and hope it helps .

^ or use a laundry bag but not the mesh kind I use my old army issue laundry bag to move any of my big fish which luckily isnt very often doesnt seem to stress them out as much and minor fin damage if any oh and I agree about lowering the water level as well

a fishing pole usually works well. grab a few buddies, some lawn chairs, a 12 pack and have at it. ok dont listen to me probably not the safest method
