has anyone ever seen or heard of pacu breeding in a small aquarum such as my 250?? any info on their behavior??

past week i notice my 12" chasing the 18" red belly around quite a bit, ive seen them lip lock, and the larger pacu's face is torn up to hell. i wouldent imagine its aggression as their in with 2" convicts and a 5-6" jag that dont have a scale out of place.

if it is spawning, my 75g tank will be getting some sushi/caviar

My pacu lip lock, but I'm sure its aggression cause their tanks way too small. They are in a 200G tank waiting for me to finish their 600G, when I can then start on their next tank!

mine were always lip locking and swimming together and the larger one would always swim over to the smaller one and kind of shake so i really think i had a pair but there is no where in any research information that pacus were bred in a home aquarium.. they need massive amount of room..

If it's anything like my 6-7" RH, then it's just aggressive towards anything. I've never heard of RH being aggressive but it's been the only thing I've added to my tank recently and then smaller fishes are being eaten...I;ve seen it chase my Tinfoils around that are about it's size. It's the only RH in my tank in a 110G.

I've seen this tank at a restaurant that had a 7-8" Pacu and fighting with a 2-3" african cichlid...

I hormone induce Pacu and hand strip the eggs into a goldfish bowl so technically it is possible to breed Pacu in a goldfish bowl.

this is starting to get bad. i dont see how its aggression when the pacu could mess with an oscar close to their size, or fish only 2-3" and they dont.

now i gotta start looking for another 250+ to seperate these guys. aint letting my 5yr old pacu die:cry:

Can you give me some details in how to induce the Pacu with hormones, what kind of hormone, age of the fish to reach maturity, did your get fry, etc. Would the Pacu mate naturally in a pond large enough?

Thank you

i have no experience with pacu, but with most other fish aggresion is a part of breeding behavior, and can end with death sometimes. this could also explain why your other fish are left unharmed, or your pacu just dont like each other.

i dont think pacus would breed in 250 gallons
im sure they would breed in a larger aquarium
but im thinkin the bigger the better
