Yesterday, I fed my baby Pacu's their first worm. After about 20 minutes of swirming around it in curiosity, the dominate Pacu went in for the kill and bit it in half (4" worm. 2.5" Pacu.) It took about 45 minutes for them to actually eat the entire thing. The cool part was watching their rivalry. 2 were fighting for one half of the worm and swam around for 5 minutes trying to tear it out of the others mouth...

Well it rained again today and I thought to myself "Okay, I'll give them another today, but a smaller one, and I'll try to get a video of them in action"

Expecting to wait another 45 minutes for my Pacu to finish it up, I turned my camera on and zoned out for a moment. Well during that moment the dominate Pacu immediately snatched the worm and swallowed it whole. I was bewildered when I regained my focus and noticed the worm wasn't hanging on the plant as it was 3 seconds ago.. Luckily, I got it on a short-but-sweet video and uploaded it for you guys.

Hope the video works... I know it might not seem too interesting to some but its great to see something that I took in at 1" in length, growing and learning. :nilly:

What should I feed them in the next video?

try this, its great
I read online that pacus love eating plants and nuts, so i figured id go buy some nuts for mine. I dont know the name of the nut but just make sure its not processed. just a plain dry unsalted nut, not peanuts or cashews though just sumthin very bland like an almond or sumthin.

throw that it, hell chew it n spit it out for a while n then when hes ground it up enough hell swallow it
mine used to love nuts

Brazilian Nuts?
just nuts
any nuts hard ones

they also love plant food, make sure you give him plenty of greens. fruit is also a good supplement. I reccomend keeping protein limited to worms and other inverts. also keep in mind he is going to need a tremendously large tank as he grows.

Thank you for the replies.

the tank is 55g

here is a picture of the whole group (in just that tank)

I am working on an 8'x4'x2' tank at the moment. been in the designing stages for a while. Was going to use my hot tub when I first bought the Pacu but thought that would waste too much space. A tank of the specs I proposed would be cost effective and the glass I have will work perfectly. I just need to take a trip to home depot one day this week.... I wont let the Pacu get over 3" in this tank. The other will be finished before.
