I'd like to ask all the Pacu owners to list the size of the pacu and what you feed them. i have too many hard headed customers who buy them after i warn against it because of their tank size but i still have to answer their questions. what to feed them.

Special request for Liz

My biggest is about 80cm and weighs 9Kg. Most of the others I have are around 50cm. If I am conditioning for breeding I throw in small fresh whole fish from a fish monger as I want protein for egg production and I worry they dont get enough calcium.

If I am not breeding I toss in whole peacan nuts which float. I have also used shelled and unshelled raw peanuts and small tomatoes since I have so many in my garden. Just to make sure they have a balenced diet I also use a KOI floating pellet occasionally since both species are omnivores but predominantly vegetable. I only feed 2 or 3 days a week since they are already mature and only get fat if I feed more.

Pacu are very easy fish to feed. I would advise customers that they chew anything so their tanks will be pretty bare and electrical cords need protecting. A few horror stories of smashed tanks may be enough to discourage customers? If spooked they have enormous momentum and their jaws could crush your fingers flat or take them off without even trying.

i heard they eat grapes and zuccini
dunno thoough
but i do know that they are omnivores mostly vegitarians though
:D

I fed mine pellets, krill, silversides, grapes, homeless people, cucumber, banana, zuchinni, green beans, peas, Buicks, chopped carrots, tubifex cubes, dead cons, orange slices, algae wafers, and lettuce.

I filled up a huge pretzel bottle with the koi feed and still had enough to refill 3+ large canisters.

real tricky wurm!

So obviously they are very fussy eaters!! (not). I use dry cat food too when I am too busy to get KOI food. Choose one low in preservatives and high in fish meal and vegetable protein.
