Is it possible for a pacu to get hith? I have recently noticed my 2 pacu's heads look lumpy. I have never noticed it before now, and it looks fresh. If it is possible, would it make sense that in my tank of cichlids and pacus, the pacus got hith and the cichlids (including an oscar) don't have it? Any help is appreciated. Hope my pics help. Thanks in advance.

I just did a water test, with typical results. Ammonia-0, Nitrite-.05, PH-6.2, Chlorine-0. PH is always low because of a huge piece of driftwood.

It's possible...There are a lot of large rocks in the tank. The only thing is, those pics are two different fish. I suppose that they could have been playing and banged each other up...seems odd, though.

Bump...anyone have any ideas?

I was just reading the February POTM contest thread, and someone mentioned how the albino Oscars in picture #19 looked like they had HITH, and I thought they did too, but apparently they have what's referred to as "anatomical sensory pits."

Is it possible that Pacus also have these pits?

Get in touch with some Pacu experts. Frank Magallanes at the OPEFE (Oregon Piranha Exotic Fish Exhibit) may have the answer for you. he is one of the world's most experienced Piranha experts, so who knows. he also may be able to get you in touch with someone if he isn't sure.

Good luck
