this is the 13 inch pacu i rescued from a very nice lady that bought him 5 years ago when he was very small because the person at the fish shop told her he would be fine in a 29 gallon tank, thats right 29 gallons is what he lived in for 5 years and the lady was bothered because he couldn't even hardly turn in there and she couldn't afford a bigger set-up , so i gave her a pair of convicts a jewel and a firemouth just to get this big guy to a better home,
now remember he spent 5 years in a small tank and never even saw another fish until sunday, now he is in a 300+ gallon pond with 6 oscars 2 blue channel cats and a midas and he is having a ball, anyway just thought i would share this happy ending with you guy's since i love storys like this myself
here's a pic for you all....ENJOY

Get job man, it looks miserable. Quick question – don’t channel cats usually get real big, like 2-3 feet in length? If that is true, then you’re pond will get over crowed quickly, as they get bigger. I really hope you’re prepared, because that Pacu is not yet fully grown and with six Oscars, the bio-load will be tremendous. Anyways, excellent move on your part, because it is way better than 29 gallons of water!

yes they get real big but right now the channel cats are only about 6-8 inches and the oscars are about 5 inches and i am gonna re home the rest of the oscars once i notice a pair hooking up and i will put the pair in a 90 or 125 not sure which yet, and the channel cats are there just as a novelty for my kids and then they will be donated to a local aquarium or given to someone that has a suitable home for them but i think i will keep the pacu for a while just to make sure he stay's happy then i might donate him to someone with a very large pre-approved home

The 300 will be fine for the Pacu, if you chose to keep him/her. Pacus can also eat smaller fish, so keep on eye on your slender-bodied cats.

I meant no ill-will or sarcasm by my early post, I was just wondering...and I really meant it, it was a great move. I'm sure the Pacu will get better over time with more room and friends to play with now.

not taken in ill will her freind, i actually might never let him go just because of his messed up life, and the 300 would be good but in the next 6 months i wanna build about a 2000-2500 gal. outdoor pond with good depth to it, just for rescued stuff like this guy to spend their life

Nice, I always wanted a large outdoor pond of similar size. My current pond can only maintain small fish like goldfish or even bass. Of course I chose bass.

If I ever get to build my home, I will create a huge in wall tank that will span the length of the first floor...there will be one on each side, one for salt and the other for fresh water…maybe I am dreaming to hard…lol.

Good luck man!
