Where Palm Trees Grow
I just looked at my red belly pacu today and he seems to have little areas of white on both gills with super tiny white spots and then he has a area on his tail and a few places on his body. But he is showing no signs of sickness he's not rubbing on decorations he is very active and acting normal, I would post pics but I do not have a camera, What do you guys think?

Ich should look grainy and go for the fins first before the body. Google the pics to confirm this. Is the other issue possibly columnaris?

Please add more details.

1. What is the size of your tank?

2. What are your water parameters? State the brand of test kit used.

3. Is your aquarium set up freshwater or brackish water?

4. How long the aquarium has been set up?

5. What fish do you have? How many are in your tank? How big are they? How long have you had them?

6. Were the fish placed under quarantine period (minus the first batch from the point wherein the tank is ready to accommodate the inhabitants)?

7. What temperature is the tank water currently?

8. Are there live plants in the aquarium?

9. What filter are you using? State brand, maintenance routine and power capacity.

10. Any other equipment used (aside from heater and filter which are two very important components of the tank)?

11. Does your aquarium receive natural sunlight at any given part of the day? What is your lighting schedule (assuming you do not rely on sunlight for our viewing pleasure)?

12. When did you perform your last water change and how much water was changed? How often do you change your water? Do you vacuum the substrate?

13. What foods do you provide your fish? What is the feeding schedule?

14. What unusual signs have you observed in your fish?

15. Have you treated your fish ahead of diagnosis? If so, what treatments did you use? State your reasons for planning ahead of proper diagnosis.

My tank is 55g I have not used a test kit yet Im pretty sure the tank is 48x12x16 it is freshwater it's been setup for about 6 months I have 7 fish they are all about 3-8 inches. they have not been in quarantine I have had them all for about 4 months. the temp is 81 I have no live plants I am using a whisper 330 bioload I change the pads every two weeks I'm not sure of the power. I have no other equipment besides filter and pump and heater. It has a little sun light but not a lot I usually turn on the lights in the morning. I changed the water last week I do vacuum the substrate I do a water change every week up to 35%. I feed them every two days with frozen krill and shrimp pellets. The fish are all acting normal no signs of ick whatsoever they have not been acting abnormally no scratching or anything very active. And I have not treated the fish yet.

55g is 48X13X21. Your tank is only 40g. You need a upgrade ASAP!!! Your tank is far too small!!!! Up the temperature to 86. You must not change all of the filter pads at once, that is where all the bacteria is! You should be doing daily 50% water changes with that disease and those fish in that tank!

1. Why did you not use the test kit yet? I'd test the parameters now and post the results.

2. How are you changing the filter media? Are you actually replacing all the media? If so, you risk "re-cycling" the whole nitrogen cycle process by losing the beneficial bacteria repeatedly. Even if you have substrate and decors for the BB to latch on, a big amount of bacteria lost can still cause ammonia and nitrite blip. You need to check your water parameters.
