thinking of getting pacu ... he will be about 6" when i recieve him ..how long do you think it will take him to out grow a 125 gal?? .. i plan to put him with a tiger oscar roughly the same size ... will they get along as tank mates??

they should and youd have a year at the most. maybe 6 months.

Oscars & Pacu tend to get along well.

careful feed good food and not feeders and he will be great for eating... I know some think they are great pets, I say they are a great reason to get a bigger tank... they are not called tank busters for nothing...

pacus and oscars will get along, especially if you start them both small / young. but pacus are just too friggin big for a 125 gal. 6-8 months... eventually you're gonna have a fish that could get 36" on you, have to change the water twice a week, and if it doesn't jump out, slosh water everywhere during feeding.

Dont even try to feed a pacu a feeder. They would be much more happier with a sole diet of vege's, fruit's, pellet's etc. Of course a pacu will most likely devour a feeder, however they are best avoided as a feeder is the complete opposite of its natural diet.

Plus you probably shouldn't encourage it to chase and attack other fish lol, I've seen some "killer carnivore pacu" raised on fish...not pleasant tankamates.

All good advice. Be committed to a fish that gets 30"+ and will need at least a 300g probably. Because once you get one, it's very hard to find someone else that will take them off your hands.
