So it seems that not many people own a Pacu. Maybe its the size of the fish. I was wondering, is there anyone else in TX that owns a Pacu? I have searched on other forums but I can't find anyone!

You could probably keep a nice school in an outdoor pond in texas, no?

Yes you can. I've seen a video of someone converting there pool into a pacu tank...very cool. However, there is once lake where there is a $100 bounty on any Pacu that get caught. Its sad to see that people go out and buy these fish without knowing anything about them.

You can mostly blame the ones getting released on the big box stores. I don't know of any serious fish keepers around me that keeps them

??? why do they put a bounty on a pacu. As far as i know they are really common.

I have 12. They are all rescues. I want to put them in my pond but it is 13,000 gallons and I wouldnt be able to catch them to bring them in. They wouldnt survive the winters here.

what and how do you keep the 12 pacus.. they are my favorite fish in the world.. but they are so abused and so many people have no idea what they are getting into when they buy that cute little red belly smily face..

They are in my 700 gallon stock tank in my garage with an 8' diameter. The smallest is about 13" and the biggest is 24". I have rescued them all from terrible conditions. Most are off of craiglist. There was one 12" pacu that was in a 15 gallon tank I rescued, as well as one that was 20" in a 30 gallon tall. It was literally from side to side and couldnt turn around. I feed them better than I feed my self with all the vegetables, fruit, and shrimp they get. Im about to give several of them to a cabelas near me though.

well that is wonderful that you do this.. make sure to take care of you too..since they all need you... thats also good that cebelas is taking some for their huge display tank.. pacus love alot of attention so they should be happy there... keep up the good work...

I noticed that you are in austin tx..do you plan on gicing them to the cabelas in Buda? I go there all the time! Its nice to see someone else who loves Pacu and who actually has the time and commitment for them
