Hello Everyone,

As many of you know I currently own a black pacu which is 12 inches at the moment, named Shepherd. He was sold as a Black Pacu though ive been told its possibly a red. Ive noticed that red's larger than this are still in silver/red coloration and that Shepherds lower body portion is jet black like all black pacus that ive seen. Though he is large he is currently housed in a 55 gallon aquarium which is a wide as he is long and three times his length. Even though this is obviously only temperary is it too small for the moment? I perform daily water changes of %5 or so (2-3 gallons) and the filrations in the aquarium consist of 1 aquaclear for aquariums of up to 70 gallons, a small simple water pump for circulation, and a large air pump with stone on the other side of the aquarium. Im using fine brown gravel/sand mix with the only decorations being a small display of rocks and plants on the far left side of the aquarium. I usually keep the water at a constant 78f. He is fed three times a day using cichlid pellets and large flakes with the occasional blood worms, shrimp and a variety of veggies. How am I doing? I want the best for this fish and am willing to provide the proper home.

Thank you for viewing! :)

That is a nice, healthy looking fish. I think you are going to hear from others that you need a massive tank to keep this fish for life. I personally do not feed my fish that often unless they are fry. Especially with a small tank you are really going to degrade the water quickly and the filtration you currently have is not enough. At least you know you have a temporary situation and others can better recommend a tank size.

Thank you, a 70gallon filter is not enough for a 55 with daily water changes? Do you think he is okay in this aquarium for a short time?
