Bought a 10 inch pacu for my 1700 gallon pond two days ago. it seems healthy and fine. The shopkeeper had it in a 5 gallon tank, so i rescued it. The problem is, it keeps staying in one spot and swims rarely, when it is darker. the spot at which is stays is surrounded by rocks, so i think it is darker or safer there. is my pacu fine or is sick

Sounds like normal healthy behavior given the Pacu’s history in a very small tank and unfamiliarity with its new greatly improved environment. Thanks for rescuing him!!!!

Pacu have that typical characin skittishness. Since he is still a baby yet, provide him some hiding places. If he is a typical pacu, it shouldn't take long before he shows that wonderful pacu personality - greeting you - curious about the world inside and outside of his tank -

I've kept a few Pacu and Ive found they are prone to stress. Juveniles tend to hide at first. I've also had a few die on me just from transportation stress so Id recommend not bothering him or changing any water parameters until he's established.

As long as the Pacu is eating things will likely be fine.
