Pacu sizes and temper

Helo. I wanted to know if pacus are peaceful fish or if some species are and are there some species that are smaller than others?

Depends on how we are defining pacu.
If just piaractus and Colossoma count, then you are looking at 2+ feet and anything that fits in their mouth is food.
There are a number of silver dollars out there that are “pacu” and much more tame, only in the 8-12 inch range.

A friend of mine has a couple of "snow Saucer" sized Pacu in a 10,000 gal tank, they steal bananas from a similar sized turtle in the tank, and basically rule all 10,000 gallons. Those human like teeth could easily take off a finger, not that they would intentionally but........

They are a lot of fun, and a beautiful fish. But very impractical for anyone who doesn’t have the largest tanks.

Thats the first thought the biggest tank jeez to my mind until you mentioned the silver dollars as an option Deadeye that’s definitely a beautiful diverse category
