I recently acquired 2 6yr old Red Belly Pacus from a Local Fish Store. I have them in a 55 gal. tank with approx. 4 inches of gravel, two filters (Whisper and Clear) and undergravel too. Should I change over to a Bio-Wheel instead? Is 55 gal sufficient for these guys? The only other tank mate is a pleco.

no way is that good.. they dont fight?? i have 2 that are about a foot long or so.. they are in a 105g and i think they need more room.. they swim the whole tank and still fight from time to time..

they have to be big cause my pacu that i bought as a baby about 7 months ago is over 6 inches around..and eats like a pig.

Ive heard pacus need like a 600 gal tank. The ones ive seen at public aquariums were 2 feet long and deep/wide.

They are about 12 inches long. I bought them from a "expert fish guy" who told me they would do fine in a 55 gal. tank. They grew up in the same tank together and do not fight, although when startled they tend to wig out a bit.

well you CAN keep them in a 55 my cousin did for a while. but many many ppl on here will tell you that thats not right.. i would say the same.. they cant swim in that small of a tank.. look into a 100 gallon or more. my 2 are in 100g and they do good..

Isn't your 55g only 12" wide?
