Whats the lowest temperature a pacu can live in? would room temp be ok?(68-70) my lfs has 2 large pacus 1 about 12 inches and another about 14 inches in like a 18 by 18 tank and i feel sorry for them and wanted to make an indoor pond for them thanks in advance, John

bump!

my friend has 5 huge pacus in a pond with koi where the water is real cold with no problems.

From what i understand pacu do not like the cold, from what i understand they are starting to use them in texas as moss controllers because they die off in the winter from being to cold.

well i guess there going to have to be in there 18 by 18 tank=( thanks guys

Pacu are found in Paraguay and Argentina too where during the winter temps can dip into the low 40s upper 30s! I think if you can keep your water around 72-74 they will be fine.

my indoor pond currently has 2 red bellys that have been in there for 3 months, 1 black pacu that i added yesterday, 7 oscars, 3 jack dempseys, 2 jags, and some others.... the point is i dont have a heater in it, it stays pretty consistant between 72-74 exept when i turned the ac off and had all the windows open up stairs and kept the door to that room closed, then it got up to 78-80.

We keep our house at that temperature. With a heater, our tank is 78 - 82.
