Hi guys I have a red belly pacu that is about 14-16 inches long and refuses vegetables! He goes crazy for anything else, and his favorite food is silversides at the moment. He is on a staple of hikari pellets. He occassionally catches the feeder fish that are for my armatus. How can I get him to eat vegetables?

keep trying.. he will need to have time to acquire a taste now that he is used to eating live fish and pellets..they are creatures of habit. And as long as you have these two types together he will continue to eat the feeders........try small pieces of raw carrot.. and half of a green grape.. remove if you do not see any thing eaten... try again at a later date.....

You could cut off feeding for a few days, then try some new foods. Try raisins, peanuts(any kind of nut), Nori, pond plants, craisins, veggies, etc. Limit sugary foods to once every few weeks. My pacus like to pick up food on the drop. They will feed off the surface but not as often. I offer algae tabs as the bulk of their diet with cichlid pellets. Wrap a silverside in leaf of spinach/kale etc. Then eventually wean off silversides.
