i have 2 red bellied pacus, one is little over 2ft maybe 10lbs in weight, the other one is about a foot in lengh, my question is to any who has raised this type of fish, why are the anal fins on the little pacu bright orange-red?

Let me be the first... "Post Pics" LOL. Someone once gave us a silver dollar. We did',nt know it was actually a Pacu until it grew and grew and-- so we researched. Maybe you have a Redhook Silver Dollar?

I have a RB pacu also but I'm not sure I can answer your question. I would guess that the smaller fish is a male (more orange) or hasn't darkened down yet. At what size did they begin losing their red stomachs? The anal fins and stomach are bright red on mine and his body is more of a silver color.

Nice. Maybe the color on the little guy might fade out with age. But it looks nice. Enjoy it while it still has it.

the large pacu is almost 6 yrs old i think it start losing its red bellied color about 2 yrs of age
