REGARDING MY PACU: I need some help Please, 15 hours ago my filter started making noise (just a air bubble) and my husband unplugged it! He didn't tell me!!!! I came home went to bed and this morning my Pacu is off color with his bottom lip all swollen and sticking straight out! he is swimming ok. right away I drained 30% refilled and drained 30% again. I also put the big canister filter back in with fresh charcoal and turned the millennium 3000 back on. (This is my fault! I didn't want to go to Salem to get more charcoal 2 days ago so I took the canister filter out and let the 3000 run until I could go get some charcoal. I have run just the millennium 3000 for a week alone before no problem. But with no backup my poor fish is now suffering!! Can anyone tell me if he will be ok? Will his lip go back in?
He is 23 inches long and I have him in a 100 gal tank alone. extra clean fish keeper. 20 percent water changes weekly and run a magnum and a millennium 3000. (yes I know it's too small. We are building a giant tank outside for him. I live in a trailer and the structure can't take a bigger tank. no I didn't buy this fish some other dummy with a 45 gal tank bought the fish at Wal-Mart. I rescued him 5 years ago from the 45 gal ) I can't find him a better home. We can't finish the 2000 gal tank until summer. I don't need yelled at I just need to know if Enzo is going to be ok or should I put him down.

There are a ton of problems here. So many that I'll probably forget some. It is an understatement to say that that tank is too small for a 2 foot pacu. He probably cant even turn around, and if thats the case the swollen lip could be from him always rubbing on the glass. Carbon is unnecessary anyway. You dont need it. Im not sure what a millennium 3000 is, but unless its some super crazy filter I've never heard of, 20% weekly water changes are not even close to enough. I have tanks with a tenth of you fish in them that I do 50% weekly. What are your water parameters right now?

The thing is that with all of these problems, its unlikely that anyone is going to be able to pinpoint the reason why he is not the right color and is injured. If the fish only has a swollen lip anyway, why are you considering putting him down???

And how are you going to keep a tropical fish outside in Oregon?
