Paddle fish or spoonbill(Polyodon spatula) is a very nice fish but hard to keep in a normal home aquarium & it also a cold water fish so need chiller.I hv kept many but never grow above 12inches. Any MFK own big giants to show & tell me how to upkeep this fish TKSmembers.:)

Round tank is the only way to go for paddles.

It doesn't really need cold water, they're native to the southern US. Some water they live in gets 90+ Fahrenheit in the summer. It would probably do best in a pond with fresh water inflow (to simulate a river).

They would do better in a cold water system. All the times I have seen them, in river, lakes and quarries. I have never seen them near the surface of the water. I think the shallowest depth I have seen them in was about 20'. They always seen to be under the thermocline(20-30' were ever it is).

i think folks on here understand the requirements for spoonbill and dont bother. they arent aquarium fish

Paddle fish are more for ponds than aquariums. They can easily reach several feet in lenght though it takes a few years. Plus, they can sell for a good bit of change when sold for food so those with big enough ponds may want to consider raiseing some then saleing for food.:)
