Kinda hard to get a full shot of the fishes because the tank is kind of big and fishes are still babies

They are on full Bloodworm diet now, I will start training them to eat high protein pellets next week

Polyodon Feeding Video

thebiggerthebetter thebiggerthebetter Would greatly appreciate to share information on the bellugas as fellow keepers as i find information on their care is fairly limited.

Thank you very much for sharing I will look forward to following along.

Wow this is a very interesting mix. So what kind of a set up are we looking at here? From what I see almost all these fish are high flow high oxygen, what kind of flow and filtration are you pumping into this bad boy?

The Masked Shadow The Masked Shadow So far so good they dont really take interest on one another.

C chineseguy in the video i feed them with frozen BloodWorms

Matteus Matteus the tank is highly circulated. 200x60x60 cm sump filter , 90% is bio media (kaldness k1, crystal bios) . All the chambers that contain kaldness k1 (3 chambers) have a wavemaker on their own for added gas exchange and oxygen circulation. I've got 2x 15.000 Lph pump for this sump ( 2x 1.5" PVC for sump inlets from tank) . Its a bit overkill for this tank size, but i just want to be safe. Will try to get a vid of the sump later.

Thank you much for starting this blog, very interesting and unusual mix indeed, of course not long term, we understand.

IDK much about beluga sturgeon yet either, only had our first pair for 1 year but we got ours larger, at 2.5' / 75 cm. They are about 100 cm now. I have a blog started on them too on MFK.

You are the only other beluga keeper I know, apart from the farm we got ours from. They are very hard to get. Very strict rules and paperwork etc.

I have heard rumours of their crazy growth rate and done some research on it, i was not sure if what the webs are stating is true coz it sounded a little too much. But after hearing from u, i believe it is true . Holy… 75 to 100 cm in a year thats awesome.

May i know what temperature you are keeping them at? I have seen your vid and you bought a chiller for them .

i just found out a Malaysian company(T’lur Caviar) managed to breed and farm caviar out of belugas in tropical weather, and they claim that belugas grow and produce caviar faster in tropical weather than in the North since they do not hibernate ( not sure if its doing any good for the fish since its against their natural habitat)

I am wondering because i need to start to plan out which pond i have to put them at when they get big, wether i can mix them with my tropical fishes such as arowanas and ATFs or i need to put them with paddles on separate lower temp pond.

The beluga performance seems to depend on the specimen's history and health, which is not surprising given they are artificially bred in captivity. One of ours has been doing very well from the start while the other has been eating 1/10th of the amount the former eats. It can be quite frustrating. The smaller one is probably around 90 cm.

Nov-Apr temps fluctuate from 68 to 75 F (20-24 C), May-Oct 78-82 F (26-28 C).

Yes, ours are from a local farm in northern Florida and the owner says they take 7 years from birth to able to produce caviar, far faster than in the native range with cold winters and cooler waters in general.

As all fish, they will probably slow down after the fast growth of initial years. The farm breeders are 25 yo or older and are supposedly 6-8 feet I guess, maybe larger.
