Where did you get your pikes from? You get them from Rapps or from a LFS? Strigata and sp. 'venezuela' are often confused with each other and pretty hard to tell apart. Top that off with some places callin venezuelan pikes strigata, it gets kinda complicated. Those look like Crenicichla sp. 'venezuela' ...but I could be wrong since juv. Lugubris group pikes are annoyingly difficult to tell apart. Best bet is to be patient and let them grow out...once they get 6 to 8" on them they will be much easier to distiguish as they start going through color changes.

Typically, strigatas depending on where they are collected from will get a large blotch behind their pectoral fin in both genders. They will also have more color than a sp. 'venezuela' will. They are both awesome pikes though, I would love to have either....so your off to a great start

Hello. My name is peepee (PP) and i am married to a very lovely lady. she makes me oh-so-very-happy and even gives me control of the remote, sometimes. even though my hot water in the shower doesn't hold up it's end of the bargin, i still love our shower. and our scrub loofa thinger. it's oh-so-good to those rough areas, such as, the bottoms of my feet. if you yourselves do not have an oh-so-loverly scrubber loofa thinger, you can correct those problem areas by using baby lotion. it's got a kick that does the trick. that's all for now, stay tuned for more learning experiences with peepee.

*sigh*....Magan has suddenly taken a huge interest in helping me give advice...haha

LOL nice They are from a LFS and where labeled "black striped" or something similarly annoying and useless.

I will try to keep you updated as it grows thanks for the help.:)

LOL, thats married life for ya J...

It is so annoying when they vageuly label fish like that. 1 shop had vittatas labled as Orange pikes (still mad I didnt have $ on me).

GL with your pike, feed it nicely and should be 6" in 2 months or so.

I haven't seen a pike for sale in a LFS for almost 6 months!! I'm sure if i saw ANY pike for sale i would buy it right now...haha. None of the LFS around here carry any...sucks a good bit. Thats awesome about the vittatas!!
