when was the last time you did a water change? What's the filtration? Tank size? tank mates? Last time he was fed (or that he ate)? what was he fed? Anything else abnormal about him. Lots of questions, but these should help us get somewhere. Also how long have you had your tank lights on?

~Last water change 2 days ago
~Filtration don't remember name but it's a cannister for up to 150 gallons and also a penguin hob 75 gal filter
~tank size 75 gal
~tank mates is other bichirs and a 12" silver aro (don't flame me for the aro it's leaving soon)
~he ate day b4 yesterday (tilapia) feeding later tonight as well
~tank lights have been on for 8 hours as they r everyday
~ abnormality ... He has a broke back ... But he did that months ago and is my biggest eater/ most active/ fastest grower/ of all my bichirs the broke back doesn't slow him down at all

Have you changed anything in the tank or have you basically been doing business as usual? I had almost the same problem with one of my palmas palmas in my larger tanks. I couldn't see anything abnormally wrong, but his pattern faded more every day after. I just put some salt in the tank and did a water change with hotter water and he returned to normal. As a precaution I would just add some melafix, prazi pro, or some sort of bacterial medicine, with some salt and a slight bump up in the temp. A picture would help greatly once you can post one up.

Any chance he has been picked on? It could have even been a single, accidental bite. One of my ornates was bitten really hard by my faranah lap a few months ago and she went pale for two days. I watched it happen. She swam past the Lap's cave and the lap lunged and grabbed her tail for a second only to let go when it was discovered that it was not food. There was no visible sign that she had even been bitten. The ghost white color was the only tell.

Dr B, PraziPro does not kill bacteria. It is for parasites.

your right my bad not sure why I said it was a bacterial medicine seeing as I've used it for parasites before. Anyway I was saying use prazi pro just incase there are internal parasites that have somehow slipped into the tank.

the bichir doesnt have any white patches??? does it eat still. i have a ansorgii hybrid go from patterns/brown dark brown go pure white. and is still the same way to day

Everything is business as usual with the tank like always and my heater is working and also he doesn't get picked on ... He was the bully of the tank ... But I woke up for work this morning went to check the tank and he was not in it! Somehow he knocked the lid open and jumped out ... Found him behind the tank still moist and very bloody :( I put him back in the tank but I doubt he makes it witch really sucks he was about to be my biggest one ... Now iv lost a congi and a black volta within 2 months ;( Urgh
