Pain med question

For my neck pain, generic wall mart ibuprofen is what works,,,,,,I take four.

Prescription 800 Motrin dose not seem to work as good.


Why?

Does the prescription Motrin have something else in it as well?

Ive googled a bit, found mixed info.

ib is an anti-inflammatory,

Motrin, is a name brand ib, check the amount per pill...


If the walmart one is lower, then i would assume your pain releaf is either a side effect of something the pill is mixed with...the pills release is faster (how quick it disolves) ...or its something mental.

Your mind has the ability to trick you and its not hard to believe that you're getting a placebo effect.


Im not a dr tho, also another idea, maybe your pain is worse now...just because the tissue or what ever was damaged is healing? or your use to the pain so any small decrease in pain seems like alot...compared to before when even with a big decrease there was still pain that your not use to.

Ibuprofen is ibuprofen no matter the brand name on it.
If it costs you money for every box then buy the cheapest you can, it is all the same anyway maybe minus a fancy box and fancy looking pill/capsule.
The only thing that may differ is how long it takes for it to get into your system, nurofen comes in squishy gell like capsules which dissolve quicker than a hard chalky tablet for example. In the end they all do the same though.

If you need to take them long term then i suggest talking to your doctor about protecting your stomach by switching to an NSAID that is a COX 2 inhibitor or using a stomach acid suppressant such as pantoprazole. It will destroy your stomach eventually, after taking NSAID daily now for over 6 years I wish I had started taking something like pantoprazole a few years back.

As for the difference in effect, I don't know why. Ask your doctor.
