Hey everyone. Well, I'm just about to set-up my tank and realized that I wanted a black background. I was wondering what advice people can tell me. It's a heavy 168 gallon glass tank and I'm going to have to get some people to help me turn it around to paint it black because the back of it is against the wall. Otherwise, I can get a thin piece of wood board and paint it black and attach it to the back. If I were to paint the glass, what brand of paint would you recommend? Thanks in advance, The Doctor

I like Rustoleum universal formula flat black from home depot.. it is spray paint.

Are you wanting to use spray paint or a roller to apply paint? I've seen roller applied latex based paint on tanks in person and it looks good too.

I think I'm going to use spray paint because it will be faster and I can get it right next to the plastic braces and corners by masking tape it. Also, the reason I don't want to use a black board is because when water gets between the tank and board, it leaves a water stain and sometimes it's hard to get to.

I have seen people use car decal vinyl. Apparently it is pretty cheap and relatively easy to apply. Just make sure you get flat black and not a glossy black. The vinyl is easier to peal of than paint.

Spray paint and roller paint are great options too, just another route.

If you are doing it inside,I would get a sponge roller, and roll it on. Less taping, and you won't have to worry about over spray inside. With less of the tank, and room to cover, rolling would be faster. Roll on a coat, wait 10 or 15 minutes, roll on another.

i would roll on latex paint (Y)
