Was wondering what is better for my pond???? The painted Turt's are more of a Veggie eater etc right?? and will eat a fish occasionally ?? I have 2 RES now and was thinking of adding them to my pond..Or getting 2 PT's the better Idea?? thanks

Simmer down...not everyone reads this section and not everyone who does would have a opinion to your question. Thats no way to get an answer.....

How about some more info in your question...do you have plats or fish you are worried about in your pond?

Yes mother:ROFL:, I have koi and no valuable plants as of yet........

Now go to your room mister....and clean your closet haha.

I would say either then...I have a pretty big RES in my pond with 10 koi 20-30 white cloud minnows 3 mollies and 3 rosey reds and my RES dont mess with them. Might chase them for a second but quickly gives up since the fish is healthy and fast. Now mine has been with me for 6+ years and I never fed it live food...dont know if that matters or not. Now as for plants...my RES chomped any plants I ever put...I have hornwort in there now and I dont see it eat it but I dont know if it does or not...its a harder plant so I was thinking maybe she wouldnt chomp it.

Here is my pond and RES pics

get painted they look cooler tend to stay smaller (atleast mine stayed small) and they will eat anything and everything

I'd go for painteds.
RES are generally more aggressive from what I see.

From the top (looking at them in ponds) I think the RES has better color....well the shell at least is not just dark olive or black. They also have Rio Grand RES that have even better shells and they stay better as adults. But I really like painteds to. I have my 8" or so RES with a 2" and she doesnt even look at it. Did the first time I tried but she just went in the pond and was probably hungry and checking everything out lol.

Are you planning on overwintering your turtles in the pond or will you bring them indoors? I'm anti RES, go for some painted's! :D

ive got red ears in my pond. i have fish with them, they will eat fish occasionally, but they wont go after the big ones unless they are badly wounded. but the turtles seem to go after the odd colored ones, like a pure white, a brown, and definately black. black moors have no luck in my pond, tried many times, not only are they black but their eyes resemble a pellet.
