Hi Guys. My aquarium lid is more than a little scratched and worn on the top and it looks horrible. Decided I want to paint it. It is only the OUTSIDE of the lid, not the inside so I don't think it will matter but I wanted to check.

I want to use Hammerite spray on silver. As long as I obviously take the lid outside and let it dry a few hours (avoiding spraying the water up silver style ha ha) should this be ok? I'd appreciate response from anyone and especially if anyone has done this before. I like the hammerite range as you know what you are getting. I am in the UK.

like this only in silver

I've never done this, nor painted any of my tanks, but my guess is as long as your only painting the outside of the lid you should be okay, given that no paint chips fall in the tank after its been painted and dried (incase any fish eat it)?

But i would still wait for some one with some actual experience to give you some solid advice...

well i painted the back of my new 125 and i used Behr premium paint (paint and primer) Black matt/gloss finish. put three coats and it looks really nice

Update. I was in the shop set for buying this but after reading "toxic to aquatic organisms I chickened out". I think it probably meant dropping the can of paint in the water is toxic, not painting the outside of a lid, however I just can't risk it! Thanks guys, lid will have to stay as is for now.

as long as the paint doesnt come in contact with the water you should be fine... i vote to paint it.
