Painting a stand with fish in the tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I don't see it a problem as long as no paint ends up in the water. I would just keep the room well ventilated so the fish don't get high haha

I've painted my stand with Latex with 2 tanks setup on it, 1 top, 1 bottom, I even had to cut around the bottom tank and paint right dead overtop of it, I just covered the top of the tank with a sheet.

Latex is virtually odorless and is non-toxic as it's water based.

What is on your stand currently? paint? bare wood? varnish? bare metal? because you may need a primer and sanding.....

Thanks guys.
The stand was a DIY from about a year ago that i did. It was sanded then stained originally. I've got most of it resurfaced already (didnt know if i had to or not with the old stain on there).

Since you already stained it and now you want to paint it.....

You need to sand the whole thing and prime it before painting, you could even lightly sand the primer also for a better grab to the paint.

Or else she gonna peel back off on you.

I would recommend either pittsburgh paints sealgrip primer or Zinsser 1-2-3 odorless primer. These are great primers, but the Pittsburgh is probably less harmful - as far as i'm concerned pittsburgh is the best for paints and primer. For example, the back apt I rent out flooded, well a pipe blew in the apt upstairs from it that I don't rent, so water came down like mad, the pittsburgh paint bulged out downstairs and held the water back, it was pretty funny....

i sanded and painted a stand with a tank on it. no biggie

I would put my two cents in, but it looks as though they got you covered.

But really, you should be fine, just make sure to getdown deep enough to get the paint to adhere and you will be fine.
