Whats good MFK? So i plan on building my own sump for my 265. I plan on using a 75 gallon tank. I wanted the finished product to be real sleek with a nice professional look. What i was curious about was painting certain areas of the tank. I saw this video on youtube...

I was hoping for an end result similar to this. I know he says he used vinyl which i believe is applied on the outside but that sounds a little pricey. I paint cars for a living and have plenty of urethane based paint i could use. Would that work? And given a proper prep and cure time do you think i could actually apply it on the inside of the glass before siliconing the baffles in place? Or is there a type of paint better suited for this task?
This is just an idea and not a 100% plan at the moment but these primo reef sumps look sooo good. As always any ideas or suggestions are much appreciated

Polyurethane can degrade in water, according to this report, due to hydrolysis, thermolysis, oxidation, photolysis, pyrolysis, microbial, and solvolysis.

Of these, I'd say microbes and water are the biggest concern, although you might consider that if you find it important to put various medicines in the tank (these are innumerable), or chemicals (prime, stability, dechlorinator, chlorine, bleach, peroxide, etc.), you might create a reaction that no one has tested for already.

I think I would paint the outside, not the inside.

Not trying to rain on the parade, but aquatic animals are used to virtually nothing man made, and even a few ppm of any number of chemicals can disable either the fish or the BB.

Lol your not raining on my parade just looking for some advice. Of course painting on the outside would be easier just thought the inside lwould look nicer.
