So I’ve build a stand for my 40 breeder from 2x4s and it’s looking good. My question is do y’all have any recommendations on paint to use? I’m also adding a “trim” to the stand to cover up the bottom trim on the tank. Concern is that any water that gets out of the tank and runs down the side will sit and mess with the wood or paint I put on it…

You can paint the stand using latex paint and it will probably require a couple coats to get full coverage. Be sure to sand any surfaces first that you plan to paint if you are looking for a smooth looking painted appearance. I would also recommend painting the interior parts of the stand that are not normally seen to help reduce the chance water can keep the wood wet in the event of any spills.

The other option is to use wood stain for the exterior of the stand and light color latex paint for the inside if you plan on installing doors on the stand as it is easier to see inside the storage area of the stand.
