I'am thinking of painting the back of my 50 breeder black and wondering what type of paint to use. Also do I have to scratch the glass so the paint sticks better. Also how many coats of paint? Thanks!

I always use spray paint. I prefer matte black Krylon. No need to scratch the glass, just make sure it's clean. I wipe the glass with rubbing alcohol to prep the surface before painting.

Yup, spray paint here, too. Like Cyberhog said, use light coats. It will take MANY coats to get a solid cover. Also, I find it helpful to have a light source behind the tank so that when you look from the front, you can see thin spots in the paint.
