im going to turn an intex pool into a koi pond over the next few months...
i was just curious if there was anything i could paint over outside of it to make it look less tacky and wont melt the pool?....im white trash enough i dont need people wondering why i have a pool going year round :D and make it look more ""above ground pond" and less "cheap kiddie pool"....
i am going to purchase the kind with the metal frame not the kind with the blow up ring and im hoping algae will cover the inside wall of the pool in time to cover the blue and white walls? my parents will only allow me to put it in either 2 sections of our property and both have many trees over head! so they wont be getting direct sunlight but maybe that will be good for keeping them cool this spring summer and fall? this will be a temp pond but a permanent idea....i see people have had these running for up to a couple years with no trouble but as soon as i discover a problem ill just replace the pool since i am not capable of digging a koi pond ;)
any opinions, comments, flaming my ideas are greatly apreciated! :D
also are there any other fish that can survive the cold besides koi, goldfish, and channel catfish? i have room for atleast 3 other pools....just dont want something that needs to be heated....

Depending on the outside material (plastic, metal, other) any outdooor paint should work. You could also plant shrubs, ornamental grasses or other plant material a couple of feet away from the pond and that will help hide or camoflage it. That would still leave room for you to work around it and do maint. in the pond.

As for stock that can handle winter your limited to what you said and natives.

I have had my indoor Intex up since August last year. My best decision which I strongly recommend to you is that you add another layer of pond liner those thick ones, I don't think the Intex tarp will hold up for long.

Easy to say, I'll just replace, but the trouble of having to store the fish and make sure your cycle is not interrupted etc, might not be worth the savings of a few $.

I also solicited suggestions how to make it look more natural from the outside and there was an excellent suggestion by one of the posters to wrap the outside part with a bamboo fence, I couldn't find the exact post in my thread build. :(

But something like this, but going around the Intex of course:

Wish you well on your plans.
