Hey guys,

So I am in the middle of remodeling the whole house, and the last part will be a complete indoor paint job. I have moved my tank to the garage so that construction could be done in the living room.

But the garage will be painted as well. I was wondering if paint fumes and paint related chemicals will harm my fish. Is "covering" the tank sufficient to protect my fish, or do you suggest I move them out of the house alltogether?

I'm sure some of you folks have encountered this situation. What are your thoughts and experiences?

Thanks!

What kind of paint? How is it being applied?

i would think covering all opening with plastic and masking tape would work, as long as it wouldnt be like that for a long period. just have alot of ventilation so any fumes would go away quickly. this would probably work with the roller/brush method of painting, it may work with spraying also. i still have 2, 4 foot sections in the corner of my living room unpainted becuase its above the tank, ill take care of it when i switch the fish from the 65 to the 125 in a month or so.

I'd Saran Wrap the top of the tank except for a tiny hole and a tiny release vent. Then put an air pump outside (in cleaner air) and run the line into the tank through the tiny hole to keep oxygen up. And ventilate the house better than you think you need to.

That's a creative idea.

Any more suggestions?

paint the interior, let it dry and move the tanks back in. then paint the garage.

or if its all getting sprayed which wont leave you time to move the tank.. just leave it in the garage and cover it up with plastic... then soon as its done or between coats just open teh garage door..

buy a large plastic sheet, to cover it completely. make a tent over your tank. so your stand dont get paint on it either
