Is there any prep work that needs to be done before you paint the glass? Didn't know if it need to be lightly sanded to help paint adhere. Never painted back glass before and after seeing all the tanks on here with black backgrouds, I have to do it.
I was wondering the same thing. I imagine just find a paint made for glass. I saw here that someone recommends acrylic paint. as long as it isn't disturbed much, I couldn't see it coming up very easily. just make sure the glass is clean before you paint. touch-up would be easy enough, also.
never done it before, just guessing. maybe somebody else has more experience.
I was thinking about going like a midnight blue or very dark green, instead of black.
No sanding required. All you need is some acrylic paint, that way in the future if you decide you don't want it you can get it off. I picked up my acrylic paint at a craft store...the one in my area is called Michaels. It'll probably take quite a few coats. You can use a regular paint roller
I used Latex Paint from Home depot and used a roam roller, seemed to work better than a regular paint roller.. you'll need to do a few coats too. Make sure you clean the glass with some window cleaner.. windex...
if you use windex to clean the glass ive been told that its best to give it an hour or so to air out before you apply decals (why... i dont remember but im sure there was some sort of reason that made it worth mentioning)... so im guessing that maybe the same rules apply before using latex paint...
I use Rustoleum spray paint. And no sanding, the scratches will be visible from the inside. Just clean the glass to get rid of dust and any finger prints, tape off what you dont want painted, and spray (or brush) away.
Thanks for the replies, I just didn't want to have to clean mistakes and start over. Hopefully I won't need HI-TEMP engine paint--if it gets that warm, I'll have a fish dinner and won't need to paint the tank.
