ri
what kind of paint and how would you paint the back of the tank black

I've used acrylic paint with a roller and I've used cheap 1 dollar spray paint from Home Depot. I prefer the spray paint, tbh.

would i have to tape off the top if i sprayed it

tape off everything but the side you want painted. over spray is ugly on anything. i got cheap paint from lowes for .99 a can. the first coat will be the most iimportant. just stand back a little to ensure no running will happen. depending on your painting ability and your steady hand, i would say youll need about 4 coats of paint. i just did my first one and its way better looking than any type of background (i actually had my 120 tinted, and that cost $48 more than my spray job)

ya know actually the spray paint technique isnt too hard to do as long as the glass is clean thats all that much matters runs dont matter the will only show from the outside on the back they wont be visible from the interior just coat the hell out of that thing ive learned putting a light on the inside of the tank works and when no light shines through the black anymore your done

Clean the glass first with Windex.

Get ESP (Easy Surface Preparation), apply a coat, wait 90mins for it to dry. This prepares the surface and helps the paint to stick to the glass.

Paint 3 coats using a low sheen flat black paint. Waiting between coats for it to dry.

I used a paint roller, much easier and you can paint it even if the tank is close to the wall. It also allows for an even coat of paint.

Windex will work, but will also leave a film.

Clean it with denatured alcohol. I have used it to clean car parts after prep and the paint sticks rather well. I painted my chevy bowtie white and there are very few rock chips after three years.

If you are super picky, you can hit it with a layer flex additive then spray over that. That is normally incorporated into the paint, but you can't really do that with rattle bombs.
