after going back and forth between an african and sa/ca tank i've decided to go with a SA/CA tank. im looking to do a nice pair in a standard 55g. im not sure if they would be in a 55g for life but for atleast a year. what would you keep?

sajicas, sals,jd,blue acara, hrp's is a good idea and they are quite rare so you would be able to get rid of the fry and make abit of£$ also you could try the mixteco blues there a thorichthys, rapps has them
Salvini or a few pairs of convicts if you want some aggressive species, or severums, blue acara or hunduran red points if you want less aggressive species.
i think its gonna be between salvini, jd and sevs. would i be able to have tankmates or dithers in there with them or would there be too much aggression with the sal and jd?
you could have dithers and a small pleco if you wanted just make sure the breeding pair is bigger than the pleco as the can eat the eggs. if i was you i would go for a JD's there amazing
