I have a mostly empty 30 gallon (few shrimp, snails and a male betta) I'm wanting to add fish to.
I won't be ready to add any for a few weeks (working on getting it more densely planted), but I want to add Angels. I'm only wanting to add a pair of them, though. I like my tanks to stay pretty simple, with few fish.

I've read you should buy multiple angels, wait until they all pair up, and rehome the ones that don't. Is this necessary if you don't plan to breed? If I only buy a pair, will they do okay, even if I end up with two males or two females?

Thanks in advance.

If it's a tall 30, the size issue shouldn't be a problem with proper maintenance.

As far as the two male issue... It could be fine, or it could be disaster. If it is two males, or even a male and female who, for whatever reason, don't pair up then you will likely end up with one fish claiming his half of the tank out of the middle, and the other being shunted into a corner and having perpetually torn fins.

i think youll be fine with the angels just make sure the betta doesnt cause problems since they both can be semi aggressive towards other fish.

Thanks guys. I'll be keeping a close eye on the tank for the first few days I add anything. If my beta causes any problems, I'll transfer him to a different tank.
