pairing jd's

so I bought 4 small jd's at petsmart, hoping I will have a pair. About how many weeks or how big do they need to be where I would be able to tell? Or what signs will tell me if I have a pair or not? thanks

I just bought two today myself there's a thread with their pics on the ca/sa forum. Everything I have read says that they are rather simple to sex and breed just like other ca/sa cichlids. The male usually lacks any blue on the gill plate and is more colorful. Like I said I just bought them today and have no experience with breeding them, I just typed sexing jack dempsey's in the google search bar.

They can mate at about 3 inches+. Sexing them is quite easy, once they get some coloration, the females will have lots of color on theyre gill plate whilst males wont have as much if any, males also have exaggerated tips on theyre anal and dorsal fin. Pairs will usually fight to test each others strength in lip-locking etc. and they will always be at each others side swimming around the tank.

i have 3 that always swim together right now and 1 is always by itself. and they all seem to have lots of blue

is the blue on their gill plates? (just under their eye) post some pics of each individual one if you can

I have tried to take probably 50 pics. Each time they swim off as the picture takes and it's blurred real bad. I will keep trying.
